This project has been a long time coming… One of the first models I conceived of for Mariners Blight finally become a reality. A mutated octopus , diver daemon engine of pure steampunk Lovecraftian evilness!
Named from Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos; Defiler Azathoth is a splice of a Collecta Octopus toy and a Forgeworld Khorne Blood Slaughter Impaler. I carried the top carapace armour pattern over to the octopus waist area and used Green Stuff Industries Tentacle Maker to make loads of awesome tubing around the body core.
The arms were modified to be magnetized and the Khorne stylized impaler was converted to look like one helluva nasty harpoon launcher. The helmet much like my Mariners Blight Dreadnought was made by using a Chaos Tank Searchlight lens for a diver helmet look. The base was from Secret Weapon Miniatures, modified with a wrecked row boat and some additional floating skulls/bones.
I'm very pleased with how this Character turned out. I can't wait to field him!
That is awesome! I really love the theme and I never even expected a Defiler. That is absolutely awesome. The use of the FW kit is also a nice departure from the defiler chassis that would be the standard even for a very ... non-standard conversion like this. What are your plans for paint? Are we going to see pink and purple tentacles?
ReplyDeleteThanks OST! Yup there will be Very airbrushed ethereal pink/purple tentacles. A nice contrast to the corroded green body armor I will be painting similar to my corrosion tutorial i posted a little bit ago. Plus water and algae effects in the base for the swampy look :)
DeleteThat is flippin' AWESOME! Gotta love the octopodal locomotion, and the use of the blood slaughterer kit is inspired!
ReplyDeleteMinor niggle, name-wise - Azathoth was a protoplasmic star god (the Outer Gods), rather than a terrestrial/water-based diety (the Great Old Ones). May I suggest Dagon, or Zoth-Ommog, perhaps?
Just my Lovecraftian pedantry raising its ugly head (tentacle)? Heh.
In any case, can't wait to see this painted up - keep up the brilliant work!
Thanks Mordian!
DeleteI planned on naming my Sorcerer Zoth Ommog and in my fluff Dagon is a mini Chaos God they worship...which is basically the same as Chaos Undivided really. I never thought I'd say this..but I'm kinda running out of Lovecraftian Gods here :P
One of a kind great work as always!
ReplyDeleteExcellent, nice use of a toy!
ReplyDeleteContemptor is still my favourite I have to admit but the use of the FW piece in this works great.
Your work is unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteBest regards.
Wow... let me pick my jaw up off the keyboard!
ReplyDeleteI need to pick up some of these Lovecraft books, they may inspire me to do my own Cthulhu themed force.
Keep up the awesome work.
Exceptional conversion!! I am surprised how well you blended the two figures invoking a retro submariner feel!
