Urien Rakarth and Haemonculi Coven Finished

This update has been a long time coming.

With all the forthcoming Coven troop options I decided it was time to finally paint my Haemonculi Coven along with Urien Rakarth. I tested out several new painting techniques on these figures as well as new photography lighting provide a more atmospheric shot. I have to say, I'm rather pleased with how the pics turned out

WIPS of all the models can be found HereHere and Here

  1. They are all excellent. But, the one with the glass vials on his back stands out for me. Those are the best painted glass vials I think I've ever seen. Kudos.

  3. Outstanding. The internet has a severe lack of great DE paintjobs. Every week you are correcting that a little more. These are awesome!

  4. Those haemonculi are absolutely stunning conversions and I love the paint scheme. I especially like how the leather on Rakarth's smock turned out, that's a simply gorgeous effect. Bravo!

  5. Really enjoyed the Haemonculi, especially the leather as it looks so real and vivid. Great work.

Would love to see a tutorial on how you paint your skins as they also look amazing. Thanks for sharing.

  6. They are awesome. they are better and cheaper than the teletubbie haemonculi: http://segmentum-solar.blogspot.com/2011/05/nuevo-hemonculo.html and I will try to do my own haemonculi

@Feuermann, I still want to paint the new Haemonculi figure when it comes out. Hameonculi for everyone!

@HOTpanda, I just use Ron Saikowski's tutorial on From the Warp.

  9. Very nice looking Haemonculi. Great color choices. These look truly sinister. Where did you get the head for the female haemo? Great work.

  12. Really atmospheric looking batch of figures.

Particularly like the leather skirting effect round the back of Urien, and the bloody tentacles at his feet.

Compliments on a mean looking blog also!

  14. Just found these online the other day on Work in Progress and I have to say that they're amazing. How did you get the colors of the leather on Urien? It looks stunning.

  15. Thanks Aaron!

The leather basically is scorched brown for the shadows, bestial brown for the main color and vomit brown for the highlights. There is a few washes of Develan Mud in there.

The biggest trick to the leather was painting texture, so I stippled all the highlights while the base color was wet. it added the rough leathery look.

  16. Ahhhh, stippling; that's what I couldn't figure out. I figured there was some Bestial in there too, but couldn't place the highlight.

I'm totally looting this idea for my wracks. I'll link over when I post 'em at my place so you get the credit. :P

    Thanks again!

  17. Also doing the slashes in the leather really adds texture. After all the main layers are done, paint a fine "X" shape with Scorched Brown, then paint another "X" shape off set from it in Vomit Brown. That will give you the scratch pattern on the leather.
