(Dark) Eldar Harlequins WIP

"I come to dance the Dance of Death."

I've wanted to do a Dark Eldar Themed Harlequin unit for sometime now but wanted to do something unique and different than what I've seen before. I affectionately call them "Darlequins"

The coolest conversions I've seen in recent times were from Speedfreak's Harlequin Macabre army and taking a note right out of his book I went onto convert my own Harlequin characters.

Instead of a traditional jester feel for everyone, I decided to go the Masquerade/Carnival route and create characters based around some traditional terran ones. The Death Jester is the leader cause we're all united in death. The Shadowseer represents Wisdom and War is the Troupe Leader.

Honestly I can't even begin to tell all the pieces that went into them. Wyche, Hellion, Scourge and Kabal pieces were mixed with Empire, Bretonnian, Dark Elf, High Elf, Vampire Counts and Even Tomb King Bits!

The Whole Troupe

 Death

Wisdom

War

The Rogue

The Plague Doctor

Blind Vengeance

The High-Born

The Low Born

Magik

Lust

Now the real question... how to begin painting them?

    1. Thanks! Rouge is probably my favorite as well. He's just so swarmy.

  2. I'll add Spectacular to that list of superlatives!

    Where is War's head from?

    Cheers

    1. Thanks Dave!

It is a modified Tomb Kings head.. I think from the Warsphinx spliced with a Scourge head from Dark Eldar.

  3. That is incredible! I love the theme you're running with, always amazed at how well your creations flow from a strong unifying idea.

    Cracking good work, man!

    1. Thanks Mordian7th! :D

I'm still feeling very elvish. I think I might start dabbling with Craftworld units after this. Maybe start making some allies for my Dark Eldar.

  5. DUDE! Awesome! I recently have begun my own quest to make a dark eldar/eldar army using mostly DE parts and would like to make my own Harlies to but wasn't sure how to approach it. (and have a hard time dismissing the classic '80s modls i have.) I might have to steal some inspiration from you!
(By the way, I'll be posting my first such model, the first BeastMistress, soon on my blog if you're interested in seeing them... http://brinkschaostheory.blogspot.com )

    2. THANKS! I also wanted to ask you about the second major obstacle I saw to making my own harlies: where to find masked heads. You've done a great job of that, even making your own. Where did the metal masked faces come from?

    3. I made the masks form several bits sources. Like War is a modified Tomb Kings head and the Low-Born is a modified Sanguinary Guard head. Both were sliced and glue onto DE heads. The metal masks were from the arm piece of "the Masque" Daemon figure. You could buy a fine cast version of the figure and make a press mold for the faces and dupe them in Greenstuff.

  6. Looks great. A very interesting and personalized work, specially the High-Born. Is a very good idea inspire then in Venetian Carnival.

  8. Thanks everyone for all the compliments! I'm really glad with how they came out and I hope I can do them justice paint wise. This one will be pushing the boundaries of my painting skills but I'm up for the challenge :)

  9. I really like the Plague Doctor, but I think that Magik might be my favorite depending on how the paint ends up. The blank face just gives so many possibilities that it can't be counted out of the running.

  10. Holy crap! What a great take on a tired old unit. Damn you people, stop inspiring me! This is doing nothing but aggravating my hobby ADHD...
